Padua, 16-18 September 2025

Call for sessions

The scientific program of the SIMP-SGI Congress will feature oral contributions of 10 minutes (8 minutes for the presentation and 2 minutes for discussion), with ample space dedicated to poster presentations. [TimeTable]

Eight macrothemes macrothemes have been defined, each of which already includes two reference sessions organized by the Chairs of each macrotheme.

1. The Earth's Interior and the Planets: formation, differentiation, evolution
2. Dynamic Earth
3. Mountain Belts
4. Co-Evolution of Climate, Sedimentary Record, and Life Through Time
5. Earth Resources, Materials, and Energy for a Sustainable Future
6. Shaping the Earth
7. Sustainability and resilience to natural hazards and risks through enhanced research and technological innovations
8. Cultural Heritage and Geoscience Outreach

Would you like to propose an additional session? Follow these guidelines:
  1. The session should cover a broad range of issues, preferably interdisciplinary, to reach the minimum requirement of 20 abstracts needed for activation.
  2. Each proposal must include:
    • The reference theme
    • A secondary theme
  3. The maximum number of conveners per session is 4, and each convener may propose only one session.
  4. The proposal must designate one convener as the main contact, who will act as the liaison with the Scientific Committee and the Secretariat.
Evaluation Criteria:

Proposed sessions will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee after January 17, 2025, based on the following criteria:
  • Relevance to the goals of the Congress
  • Interdisciplinarity and potential appeal
  • Scientific value of the proposal and its objectives
In cases of significant thematic overlap with other pre-arranged or proposed sessions, the Scientific Committee may suggest merging sessions. In such cases, the number of conveners will be limited to a maximum of 4 per merged session. If two proposed sessions are merged, the Chairs of the macrotheme will be responsible for suggesting a concise and representative title, agreed upon by both parties, to ensure alignment with the overall scientific program.

Communication of Accepted Sessions

By mid-February 2025, a number of sessions, likely exceeding the final scientific program, will be shared with the scientific community.

Following the abstract submission deadline (mid-May 2025), further session merges may occur based on the number of abstracts received for the proposed sessions.

Sessions with at least 20 contributions will be guaranteed activation. The final program will be published by mid-June 2025.

The deadline to submit session proposals for the Congress is January 17, 2025.
