Geology for society: the importance of communication, so difficult, so necessary

This is the theme that will be addressed in the opening ceremony of the Congress, which will take place on September 2nd, starting from 5.00 pm. The four speakers who will accompany us in this important discussion are:
Christopher Jackson

Christopher Jackson

Science communicator and director of "Sustainable Geoscience" at Jacobs Engineering Group. He was professor of "Sustainable Geoscience" at the University of Manchester and, before that, held the Equinor Chair in Basin Analysis at Imperial College London.is known for his expertise in both the geosciences, particularly in the use of 3D seismic data to understand dynamic processes in sedimentary basins, and his more recent work as a communicator.
 He will give a presentation entitled Geoscience Communication During the Energy Transition.
Ozlem Adiyaman Lopes

Özlem Adiyaman Lopes

Özlem completed Geological Engineering degree from Hacettepe University in Ankara (Turkey) in 1994 and obtained a French Foreign Ministry postgraduate scholarship. In 2000 Özlem completed her Ph.D in Earth Sciences at Pierre et Marie Curie University (Paris, France). She has experience in scientific research in the field of exploration of natural resources, for the development and diffusion of new technical-scientific products and technological transfer. Since 2016 she has worked for UNESCO in the Natural Sciences Sector and is "Senior Manager" of the "International Geoscience and Geoparks program of UNESCO". She is specialized in communication in the field of geosciences. Her seminar will be titled: Geology and the Sustainable Development Goals.
 
Luigi Bignami

Luigi Bignami

Graduated in Geology, after a few years of collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Africa, he returned to Italy and began his activity as a scientific communicator, in particular on aeronautics, astronomy and earth sciences, collaborating with newspapers, magazines, radio and television, both Italian and foreign. Also well known for hosting television programs on Focus TV, he will talk about his experience as a popularizer in the field of Geosciences. Geology: as fascinating as difficult to describe
Casalini Emilio

Emilio Casalini

Journalist, radio host and writer, he has won prestigious awards thanks to the creation of geo-political documentaries and investigations. Since 2020 he has been hosting "Generazione bellezza", a popular television programme, which aims to "discover" the artistic and cultural heritage of our territory, which is often not known or valorised. His experience will be the basis of his speech titled: Talking about beauty to learn to recognize it and share it
